Experimental City is her third album (cdbaby.com). While raised in the country, with hayfields, streams and quiet woods, the city voice of these recordings lie more in the imagination, in the tension/embrace of growing up firmly in country and living so much in city. Dedicated to everyone who came to my gigs and to the memory of Jeff Buckley at Sin-e.

Jane Gabriels is a poetess who possesses the liberation and lilt of a Montreal chanteuse. Gabriels is a storyteller crooning the images of heartache with bluesy sophisticated rhythms and a language to die for. There is a spirituality that bursts in each note – one that is hopeful, redemptive and all at once comforting, Gabriels lulls you with her Manhattan observations – so soulful if Edward Hopper could sing with words, he would be Jane Gabriels. What he does with light, she does with vocals — clarifying states of isolation with spiritual enlightenment.  Experimental City is inspiring.
